Ping G15 Irons

 Little while back we had a look at the PING i15 iron set, and really loved the blend of forgiveness and workability in a form factor that is pleasing to the eye of the better golfer. Today we are going to have a look at PING‘s latest entry in the Super Game Improvement arena, the Ping G15 Irons. The PING G series of irons has been well respected for a number of years now, I still vividly remember the first time I picked up a G5 3 iron, my first swing launched the ball into the stratosphere and seemed to carry on forever. I had a brief love affair with the G10 irons and over the past few months have been trying to decide if the latest Ping G15 Irons could kick the i15 irons out of my bag.

Company line: "The club's 'floating' Custom Tuning Port (CTP) moves more mass to the perimeter and increases MOI. Weight removed from the thin, light clubface is redistributed to the toe for added forgiveness. A wider sole contributes to higher launching shots. Stronger lofts (and the low, deep center of gravity) should lead to longer shots."

Our Testers say:
PROS: One of the top irons tested in its class; reliable, so simple-to-hit, forgiving and accurate; tight dispersion, no shot ever goes too far from its intended line; some testers find it to be longer, on average, than their current irons; straight-hitting sticks; handles shots from rough with style; produces repeatable distance (on mis-hits, too) and predictable high, straight ball flight.

CONS: Wide-ish sole and offset require an adjustment period; center hits and mis-hits feel too similar for some panelists; a few testers prefer a bit more shot making ability.

Ping G15 Irons help golfers with their superior designs, technology, materials and workmanship. The sound at impact when you catch the ball well is very crisp and solid, and it's not too bad when you don't catch the ball that well either. You just hardly ever get that horrible stingy feedback that some iron sets can give.

From 130 yards and in, even higher handicappers should become more confident playing approach shots with the Ping G15 Irons. Along with the fantastic accuracy, the Ping G15 Irons also help produce a reasonable amount of spin on the ball, similar to the G10s. So if you land the ball on the green with these irons, odds are it'll be a soft landing and you'll stay there.
To look at them as a whole, the new Ping G15 Irons from Ping quite simply are an exceptional addition to the market. In our opinion even good players could benefit from these Ping G15 Irons, not just mid to higher handicappers. G15 Irons, Classic Improvement Stick

If the G10 provides maximum forgiveness then what do you call an iron that provides even more forgiveness? PING calls it the G15.

When you are setting up to a "classic" iron, what kinds of thoughts run through your mind? For me, I imagine the silky smooth feel of the sweet spot. I visualize the ball curving through the air at will. I can almost see the ball falling to the green with just enough spin to bounce twice and then stop. However, put a blade in another player's hands and the reaction could be entirely different. They might look down desperately searching for that microscopic sweet spot, trembling at the thought of the painful reverberations of a mis-hit.

At first glance they are nice looking irons, sporting slightly larger than normal club heads with some sharp graphics. The Ping G15 Irons would definitely look good sitting in your bag at a Sunday morning medal.
When first holding the clubs though, Ping G15 Irons definitely feel a bit heavier than most other Ping irons. However it really only takes a few practice swings to get used to the weight, and get a feel for the Ping G15 Irons.
As mentioned these irons were made to be easy to hit, and they do certainly deliver. The Ping G15 Irons can get the golf ball away consistently with such little effort, and you don't need to make that great a swing in order to get a decent shot.
And this was generally the case right the way through the set. Even the longer irons shouldn't pose too much difficulty for most players. However there is an alternative there in the form of the G15 hybrids, which are available for the golfers who are perhaps intimidated by trying to hit long irons.
In terms of forgiveness, the performance of the P Ping G15 Irons was very impressive. Off the fairway the clubs were so accurate, and the golf ball always held its line very well once airborne. Anyone who has trouble hitting enough greens in regulation could certainly see some benefit in using these irons.

Ping G15 Black Dot Irons 3-9WS Review

    Ping G15 Irons can provide high trajectory, high forgiveness and stability. Ping Rapture V2 Green Dot Irons 3-9PS Review

    New product in 2009—PING Rapture V2 irons adopted multi-material for its core part including stainless steel (shaft), titanium (clubface), tungsten (sole increased weight) and synthetic rubber (groove insert). The most outstanding feature of this iron series is its higher launch angle, so Ping designers can create more advantageous face angle. The result is further hitting distance. Ping designer Brad Schweigert said the hitting distance provided by Rapture V2 long irons and medium irons is 7 to 10 yards further than G10 irons. Comparing Rapture V2 irons with G10 irons released before, it seems that most golfers prefer to irons with longer hitting distance. But this is not the fact. With the increased hitting distance, there appears another problem for golfers. That is distance control. So although V2 irons can let ball fly like a rocket, it is hard to say that professional golfers or amateur players of low handicap will choose this V2 with lightweight titanium face. Compared with thicker and heavier steel-made face irons, the irons with thinner and lighter titanium face can provide freer swing but are not good at distance control. So, as the replacement of S58, S57 is mainly aimed to high-level golfers who always need to ensure accurate hitting distance. The chief designer of this product is the champion of earlier PGA tour Mike Nicolette. He adopted classical stainless steel blade design and embedded tungsten insert in toe. According to Ping, S57 has MOI which is 5% higher than S58, which means higher stability, better consistency and higher repeatability. All of these are needed by a excellent iron.

    The new spokesman of Ping Hunter Mahan highly praised these new released irons. He got 62 shots in his first round on Barclays Championship with these new Ping Rapture V2 Green Dot Irons. He said: “It is easy to control the ball with these irons.”
