Disc Golf Information: Theories About Disc Golf Spin and Flight Properties
One of the theories is comparing the spin of a disc to a figure skater. They start with their arms out ( more Gyroscopic) to get them spinning at first and pull there arms in( Centrifugal) to keep them spinning longer. With this comparison, gyroscopic discs are easier to make spin faster but wont stay spinning as long.
If you make the same comparison to the recent trend in yo-yo’s used for competition, this may appear contradictory. Lead is added to the outer most rim in high end yo-yo’s and they are now spinning up to 4 time longer than those without the added weight. There are of course several different factors involved, with the main difference being a yo- yo has a stationary axis of rotation without the angle of nose or effect of lift, drag, etc.
Without regards to the shape of the discs wing and dome on the top of a disc,, more gyroscopic discs go more to the right and more to the left than centrifugal discs of relatively the same wing shape. These theories are in need of more scientific testing in my opinion. There has been so much research done on circular displacement by big aerospace companies like Boeing and Nasa over the last 60 years, but information is hard to find as very little is ever published.
Discs that have more weight at the rim by % are more likely to canter and fall off against the spin as they loose velocity and rotation. The resistance of air under the nose also effects how much a disc will fade. This is the combination of shape between the underside of the wing ( flat, concave, convex) as well as height (from leading edge to bottom of wing or bead and the rim depth. The more gyroscopic and resistance under the wing the more overstable a disc is and more resistance to turn it will also have. The 2009 Ping G15 Irons are a fairly new addition to the iron market, being an update of their G10 predecessors. They are designed mainly to be a game improvement club that's easy to hit, and very forgiving.
At first glance they are nice looking irons, sporting slightly larger than normal club heads with some sharp graphics. They would definitely look good sitting in your bag at a Sunday morning medal.
When first holding the clubs though, they definitely feel a bit heavier than most other Ping irons. However it really only takes a few practice swings to get used to the weight, and get a feel for the clubs.
As mentioned these irons were made to be easy to hit, and they do certainly deliver. The G15s can get the golf ball away consistently with such little effort, and you don't need to make that great a swing in order to get a decent shot.
And this was generally the case right the way through the set. Even the longer irons shouldn't pose too much difficulty for most players. However there is an alternative there in the form of the G15 hybrids, which are available for the golfers who are perhaps intimidated by trying to hit long irons.

Ping release the Ping G15 Irons . The technology of the Ping G15 Irons provides the high-launching, maximum-forgiveness benefits that make for more consistent iron play. The Ping G15 Irons stainless-steel-cavity design features a new Custom Tuning Port that expands the perimeter weighting and increases the moment of inertia.
The Ping G15 Irons replace the hugely popular, market leading G10 irons and introduce a number of improvements that make them even more attractive than their best selling predecessors. The biggest improvement is that the G15 Irons are a bit more forgiving thanks to the moment of inertia increasing which Ping has achieved by introducing a custom tuning port that is further back from the face of the clubhead. This has allowed Ping's designers to remove seven grams from the G15's face custom tuning port structure without destabilizing the clubface or reducing distance control. This weight is repositioned to move the center of gravity lower and back in the club head to help provide high launch and optimal spin.
