The name "ping" came from the sound that Solheim heard as the metal struck the ball. The 1A and other ping putters to come would revolutionize the putter market with newly found "heel-toe" weighting. Ping was the first manufacturer to offer high quality cast clubs, which reduced costs, allowed better quality control for high tech features and set the stage for manufactured fitting. Ping was also the first to offer factory fitting, via a variety of club heads in different lies and offsets. Beginning about 1980 Ping began offering their fitting program based on a checklist of the player's physical characteristics, common problems and distances.
2012 the newest ping production is coming out. Ping g20 irons will be your best choice. The PING G20 Irons feature a new Custom Tuning Port which expands perimeter weighting and increases MOI. The thinner face of the G20 Iron helps position weight to the toe for added forgiveness. The wider sole provides a higher launch angle. Strong lofts and a low center of gravity produce long shots with a high trajectory and maximum forgiveness.
At the same time, Ping G20 Irons showcase the same head profiles, sole thicknesses, lofts and shaft lengths as G15, along with several new features that aid feels forgiveness and distance. Ping engineers, for example, strengthened the “Custom Tuning Port” (CTP) in the rear cavity. The reinforced CTP combines with an elastomer badge to reduce face vibration and dampen shock. The thinner, lighter face allows four grams to be shifted more rearward in the head. The payoff should be more playable misses, a higher ball flight and slightly more carry with the long irons.
Forgiveness and accuracy are achieved through extreme perimeter weighting in the 17-4 stainless steel head. A multi-material cavity badge made of soft elastomer improves feel and sound while enhancing distance control, allowing you to play your best golf.
